The corporate media is almost unanimous in its support for US regime change plans in Venezuela. This support naturally extends to the US-backed Venezuelan anti-Chavista opposition, which in the past 20 years has constantly tried to overthrow the government. In order to maintain uncritical support for the opposition, the mainstream media has created a series of “myths” about it.

The latest joint VA-Tatuy TV production explores five myths that sustain this favorable coverage.

2019 has been an absolutely critical year for Venezuela and progressive forces across the globe. On January 23, the Trump administration recognized a previously unknown opposition politician as “interim president,” unleashing the most intense wave of imperialist onslaught Venezuela has ever seen. The Venezuelan people have managed so far to defeat this coup effort, but Washington’s blockade continues to strangle the country’s economy, and the threat of US military intervention looms large.

This criminal economic warfare would be untenable without the complicity of the international corporate media, which have systematically delegitimized the Venezuelan government, justifying imperial violence and obscuring its deadly impact.

VIDEO: The Grayzone testifies at the UN – ‘Humanitarian crisis in Venezuela: Propaganda vs. reality’

The Grayzone’s Max Blumenthal and Anya Parampil spoke about Venezuela at a side event at a United Nations Human Rights Council session in Geneva on March 19. They joined former special rapporteur Alfred de Zayas on a panel titled “Humanitarian crisis in Venezuela: Propaganda vs. reality.”

This side event at the Palais des nations was organized by the International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL) and was moderated by Micòl Savia, permanent representative of the IADL at the UN in Geneva.
